Rick Hansen presentation on accessible public spacesThe Committee of the Whole received a presentation from Rick Hansen, Canadian Paralympian and founder of the Rick Hansen Foundation. Hansen shared his personal journey and emphasized the importance of creating accessible public spaces. He also introduced the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification (RHFAC) Program, a national rating system that helps organizations assess and improve the accessibility of buildings.
Stage 2 outdoor watering restrictions begin

Effective June 16, 2025, Stage 2 outdoor watering restrictions are in place for all RDCO water systems which include Star Place, Falcon Ridge, Killiney Beach, Sunset Ranch, Upper Fintry / Shalal Road / Valley of the Sun and Westshore Estates. Restrictions are expected to remain in place until September 15, 2025, unless drought conditions worsen.

Regional District urges fire safety in parks amid hot, dry conditions

With fire risk continuing to rise due to sustained hot and dry weather, the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) is reminding all park visitors to use caution and remain aware of fire prevention and safety requirements while enjoying regional parks this summer.
Smoking, vaping and open flames are not permitted at any time in RDCO regional or community parks. Propane-fueled barbecues are allowed but must be attended at all times and kept safely away from any flammable materials.

Property owners in the Central Okanagan East and Central Okanagan West Electoral Areas should be receiving their 2025 Rural Property Tax Notices from the BC Government in the mail.
To avoid any penalty, property owners in these areas should ensure that their Rural Property Tax is paid to the Ministry of Finance by the July 2, 2025, due date.
