On Saturday, September 30, Canada will observe the third annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, alongside Orange Shirt Day. It's a significant day that invites us all to pause and reflect on the distressing history of the residential school system in Canada, as well as the injustices faced by Indigenous communities. It's a time to honor the survivors and remember those who never made it back home.

Campfire ban ends for the Central Okanagan

Effective September 28, 2023, the ban on campfires has been lifted in most Central Okanagan areas. Campfires are not permitted at any time within the City of Kelowna.

The start of open burning in the Central Okanagan is being delayed.
Local fire chiefs for Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland, Regional District of Central Okanagan and West Kelowna have agreed to hold off issuing any outdoor burning permits due to the ongoing fire danger. Fire chiefs continue to monitor conditions and will reevaluate issuing outdoor burning permits in mid-October. WQA removed for Killiney Beach water system

After consulting with Interior Health, the Regional District of Central Okanagan has rescinded a precautionary Water Quality Advisory for customers of the Killiney Beach water system that were impacted by an emergency water service outage which, started September 14, 2023.
Approximately 50 properties were affected by this work including:
- Kildare Way
- Westside Road (9564, 9574, and 9584)
- Killarney Way (305, 309, 313, 319, and 325)
- Hodges Road (9514, 9524, 9534, 9544, and 9554)
