Be bear aware in RDCO parks

As we move into fall, visitors to RDCO regional and community parks may expect more signs that bears are out and active. With ripening fruit in Central Okanagan orchards and vineyards and spawning Kokanee salmon returning to streams, as expected reports and sightings of bears are increasing.

Office closed - Day of Mourning

The RDCO office at 1450 KLO Road in Kelowna will be closed Monday, September 19 to observe the Day of Mourning and funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
We will reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday, September 20 to serve you.

Campfire ban ends in most Central Okanagan fire areas

Effective immediately, the ban on campfires has been lifted in most Central Okanagan areas. Campfires are not permitted at any time within the City of Kelowna.
The ban on campfires within local government fire jurisdictions in the Central Okanagan has been in place since July 28. Recent showers and cooler, seasonal temperatures have lowered the potential fire danger rating from low to moderate.

Residential recycling contamination too high

Recent audits of curbside residential recycling in the Central Okanagan show high levels of garbage are still landing in the curbside recycling carts, and municipalities are facing stiff penalties if the trend continues.
Waste audits conducted regularly by Recycle BC show contamination in curbside recycling carts to be well above allowable levels of 3%. This follows a year of targeted education aimed at reducing contamination.
