Residential garbage and recycling collection resumes for Evacuation Alert areas

Beginning Monday, August 28, residential curbside collection of garbage and recycling will resume for residents in Evacuation Alert areas across the Central Okanagan. Curbside yard waste will not be collected at this time anywhere in the region.
Residents should put their carts onto the street by 7 a.m. on their scheduled days, which can be found at rdco.com/recycle or on the Recycle Coach app.

Some regional parks re-open due to favourable conditions

With lower temperatures, rain and changing status on evacuation orders and alerts, the RDCO is pleased to re-open some parks in the Central Okanagan. Eight regional parks remain closed where hazards caused by wildfire such as downed power lines, danger trees or slope instability may be present.

Beginning Monday, August 21, residential curbside collection of garbage and recycling will resume across the Central Okanagan for residents who are not on evacuation alert or order. At this time residents in evacuation alert and order areas will not have curbside collection. Curbside yard waste will not be collected at this time anywhere in the region.

Extreme fire hazard forces closure of majority of regional parks

The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) has closed the majority of regional parks due to the extreme fire hazard in the region.
“Due to the dynamic nature of the fire situation in the Central Okanagan, we are closing parks to keep park visitors safe, protect our natural spaces and reduce critical resource strain on fire crews across the region,” said Wayne Darlington, RDCO Director of Parks Services.

Due to extreme fire conditions across the region and the closure of the Glenmore Landfill, all curbside collection of garbage, yard waste and recycling is suspended until further notice. The Westside Residential Waste and Recycling Centre in West Kelowna is also closed until further notice.
