About Crime Stoppers
Crime Stoppers is a program that empowers citizens to fight back against crime. Through the program, citizens are able to safely and anonymously report knowledge of criminal activity. Anyone can submit a tip by calling our tip line at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online. Tipsters providing information leading to an arrest or charges are eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000 - thanks to fundraising and donations submitted to the Crime Stoppers Society.
Crime Stoppers operates in over 20 countries worldwide and since the very first program started in 1976, it has become the number one community-based crime solving organization in the world. The Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers group has been stopping, solving and preventing crime in the Central Okanagan since 1987.
Who Administers Crime Stoppers in the Central Okanagan?
Crime Stoppers is a world recognized program, locally operated by the Regional District of Central Okanagan in partnership with the Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers Society. The Regional District of Central Okanagan provides two full time staff members that operate the program by accepting tips from the public and liaising with the police, the media and other community partners to help solve crimes. Crime Stoppers Society volunteers assist with program promotion and fund raising to pay for rewards and special projects.
Volunteers also play an integral role in Crime Stoppers: in committees, helping with projects, attending events, helping sell items or tickets, working on special events and providing person power or expertise.

Disclaimer
By providing information that Crime Stoppers will share with law enforcement agencies, citizens provide an important and valuable public service, yet disclose of identity comes with potential risks. Crime Stoppers works hard to protect tipsters’ anonymity and does not ask for names or identification. However, that anonymity may be open to challenge in the following situations:
- A call to Crime Stoppers made with the intention of "furthering criminal activity or interfering with the administration of justice". A party who is guilty of a crime cannot use Crime Stoppers to try to divert the blame onto someone else. Crime Stoppers cannot be used to try to "frame" an innocent person.
- There is evidence that disclosure of some or all of a tip is necessary to establish someone's innocence.
- A tipster having received the benefit of full legal advice may, for his or her own reasons, elect to waive anonymity.
For a more comprehensive understanding of these principles, we encourage you to assist us by reviewing the "Tipster Information" on the Canadian Crime Stoppers website.
