All waste generated in the Central Okanagan is transported to the Glenmore Landfill. Learning how to dispose of waste in a responsible way will help extend the life of our only local landfill.

Curbside collection
Curbside collection is provided to single family dwellings in the region through contractors at Environmental 360 Solutions. The trucks in this fleet use automated cart collection, where an arm lifts and tips cart contents into the hopper. Some vehicles have a split hopper, with separate areas for different collection materials.
Each single family dwelling in Electoral Area East, Electoral Area West, City of Kelowna, City of West Kelowna, District of Peachland and District of Lake Country is provided:
- Garbage cart (120 L) for weekly collection
- Recycling cart (240 L) for collection every other week (alternating with yard waste)
- Yard waste cart (240 L) for collection every other week (alternating with recycling), from March 1 to December 31.
Carts must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on the day of collection.
Curbside collection assistance application |
If you need extra help with your curbside cart due to a medical condition/disability, complete an application for assisted service. Send the completed form by email to the RDCO.

How to position your curbside cart
- Carts must be placed outside by 7 a.m. on your collection day. Do not put your cart out before your collection day to reduce conflicts with wildlife.
- Allow 1m (3 ft.) of space between each cart and any other obstacles.
- Place your cart on the street with the wheels against the curb. If there is no curb, place it on the road shoulder or on your grass.
- Do not place carts in bike lanes or block sidewalks - carts must not be in the way of cyclists or pedestrians.
- All material must fit into the carts with the lid closed; no extra materials will be collected.
- If you have extra garbage, you can purchase up to two tag-a-bag stickers ($2.50 each) for collection of additional garbage bags.
- See cart upgrades below for options.
Carts in winter
Large accumulations of snow may cause delays in collection. Leave your carts out and they will be collected as soon as possible. Do not bring your carts back in until they have been emptied.
Curbside carts are equipped with wheels, residents should use extra caution wheeling them in snowy and icy conditions. Additional considerations for carts in winter:
- Do not place carts behind or on top of snow banks.
- Find or clear the snow from an area for your carts. Residents are responsible for maintaining an appropriate space on their property for carts.
- Keep carts off the travelled portion of the roadway so they don't interfere with snow plows.
- Clear your cart of snow and ice to ensure the lid opens when the cart is tipped into the truck.
Cart upgrades
There are several options for increasing the size of your garbage, recycling and yard waste carts or ordering additional yard waste carts. Changes in cart sizes must be done through your local government.
