Disposal locations

All waste generated in the Central Okanagan is transported to the Glenmore Landfill which is owned and operated by the City of Kelowna. Before heading to any of these disposal locations please note there are a number of items banned from landfills in the region (see banned materials disposal guide). All material transported to any disposal location must be secured and covered with a tarp.

Westside Landfill (permanently closed)

The Westside Landfill was operated as a municipal solid waste landfill under Operational Certificate (OC) PR#12217 issued by British Columbia Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy (ENV). The Westside Landfill received 782,395 tonnes of municipal solid waste from 1960 to 2010 when it was closed and partially covered.

Closure Plan was accepted by the ENV in 2017 and closure works completed in 2018. Regular monitoring is carried out as outlined in the OC and the Updated Landfill Monitoring Program and details are available in the annual reports.
