North Westside Road Transfer Station

Location

Located along the Sugarloaf Forest Service Road off Westside Road approximately 3.2 km past Udell Road in Killiney Beach.

Hours

Monday, Wednesday and Sunday: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
(Closed Easter Sunday, December 25, 26, January 1)

How to use the transfer station

  • ID cards are required
  • Cards can be obtained from the site manager during operation hours
  • ID cards are issued annually
  • Lost ID cards can be replaced at a cost of $5

Accepted items

Recyclables

You are responsible for separating the following into appropriate bins at the transfer station:

  • Paper & cardboard (flattened)
  • Containers (plastic packaging, tin, aluminum, aerosol cans, cartons, paper cups etc.)
  • Plastic bags and overwrap
  • Other flexible plastic packaging 
  • Glass
  • Styrofoam

Yard waste

  • Grass clippings
  • Shrub and tree trimmings up to 1 meter (39 inch) long and up to 20 cm (8-inch diameter), maximum load of 250 kg
  • 10 bags or one pick-up truck load
  • No construction waste, rocks, plastic bags, kitchen scraps, metal, animal waste, sod, stumps

Garbage

  • Up to 2 bags per household per week
  • No construction waste
  • Yard and garden waste and recyclables are not permitted in garbage

Special events

Bulky item collection

This transfer station hosts one bulky item collection event in late spring/summer (June/July) and another one in the fall (October).  During these week long events, residents with valid ID cards can dispose of large household items for a minimal cost. 

  • Next bulk item drop off will be summer 2023

Event details 

  • All bulky items accepted- $20 a truck load (cash or cheque only)
  • Fridges and freezers (empty), large appliances - no charge
  • No construction, renovation material
  • No hazardous wastes
  • No electronics

 

Hazardous waste and electronic recycling collection

This transfer station hosts one Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste collection event a year, usually in July.  During this one-day only event, residents have the opportunity to dispose of their unwanted hazardous and electronic waste.  

  • Next hazardous waste collection event will be summer 2023 

Accepted products

  • Household paint products
  • Flammable liquids and aerosols (must have flammable or warning sign)
  • Domestic pesticides (with poison symbol and PCP #)
  • Gasoline (in approved ULC/Jerry can only)
  • Liquid adhesives, undercoat and tars
  • Pool and hot tub chemicals
  • Batteries, electronics, computers, small appliances
  • Light bulbs & fixtures
