A new exhibit at the EECO sheds some light on the world of bats.
‘Bats: Out of the darkness’ reminds us of the important role these flying, primarily nocturnal mammals play in our environment. The family-friendly content highlights bat ecology, biology, habitat needs, conservation and fun bat facts. By sharing information it is hoped that rather than fearing bats, residents will be inspired to help protect them.
The exhibit can be viewed at Environmental Education Centre for the Okanagan (EECO) in Mission Creek Regional Park through mid-July. It was developed by a diverse group of community, regional and syilx/Okanagan partners including the Kelowna Museums Society, Regional District of Central Okanagan, Okanagan Nation Alliance, Habitat Trust Foundation, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Province of BC and the Okanagan Community Bat program.
Check out special bat-themed drop-in activities each Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the EECO. There’s also supporting edu-kit materials created for teachers and educators.
The Environmental Education Centre for the Okanagan is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
