The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) is reminding residents served by the Westshore Estates water system in the Central Okanagan West Electoral Area that a Boil Water Notice remains in place. RDCO staff continue to actively investigate, test and monitor the water system.
The Boil Water Notice, issued on April 11, 2025, remains in effect due to elevated algae levels and high turbidity in Okanagan Lake. These water quality issues may be partly caused by soil instability following the McDougall fire, which can lead to sediment washing into the lake during rainfall. Seasonal algae blooms and changes in source water quality can reduce the effectiveness of chlorine, making it harder to control bacteria like coliform in the drinking water.
Residents are advised to continue bringing water to a rolling boil on a stovetop for at least 60 seconds prior to use. This includes water used for drinking, brushing teeth and washing and preparing food. Customers may wish to consider using an alternate, safe water source such as bottled or distilled water.
The Boil Water Notice will remain in effect until water quality testing confirms that it meets the Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines, in consultation with Interior Health.
