Bundle up for a blast of winter fun with one of RDCO’s newest park programs or check out the latest events in the park program guide. January through March is the perfect time to enjoy winter trails and frosty landscapes. This season, enjoy guided hikes, family programs and community workshops. Highlights include:
After the fire in Rose Valley Regional Park: guided hikes to explore how nature is healing after a wildfire. Learn about the resilience of the ecosystem, the signs of renewal and how plants and wildlife thrive in recovery.
Celebrate the Family Day weekend with a nature walk: join a Park Interpreter for a guided walk through Mission Creek Regional Park in celebration of Family Day. Explore the diverse habitats that create the park’s unique ecosystems. Discover different tree species, listen to bird calls and appreciate the natural beauty that makes this park so special.
Night sky club: an after-school program suitable for ages 9 – 11. Kids can become night experts and learn about animals and birds that thrive at night, how to read star charts, play outdoor games and work on night sky inspired arts and crafts.
The program guide is available online or you can view all programs at a glance on the RDCO calendar. Most programs are free, but be sure to register in advance to secure a spot. With something for everyone from nature-based art workshops to adventurous outdoor activities, there are countless ways to connect with nature in regional parks this season. Remember, outdoor programs run rain, snow, or shine, so dress for the weather.
