The Regional District of Central Okanagan Waste Reduction Office is offering free recycling workshops and education information for multi-family properties, condos and apartment buildings to help residents and property managers with their recycling efforts.
The training and education program was a recommendation from the 2019-2020 Multi-family Recycling Study conducted by GreenStep Solutions. It identified common barriers to recycling in multi-family buildings which included uncertainty about what is recyclable and the complexity of our current recycling system.
The following workshops are available for both residents and property managers to participate in:
- Recycling area revamp: a basic recycling area layout consultation for property managers/strata members, where signage/stickers for your recycling area would be provided, if needed.
- On-site demonstration workshop: short presentation and Q&A on how to source-separate materials at home, what can go in the on-site bins, what can go to the depot/other locations, and ideas on small-space storage solutions.
- Lobby event: could precede or follow the workshop offering an information table to respond to questions from building residents that walk by.
“The workshop was very professional and informative and answered any questions that I had. I even discovered items that are recyclable that I was previously unaware of. It provided insight into the many reasons why we should recycle!” - Satisfied program participant, Rock Ridge, West Kelowna
This program will run until June 30. Both residents and property managers will have the option to sign-up. To request an in-person session at your building, please visit: rdco.com/multifamily. If you or someone you know lives in a multi-family residential building, or if you are a property manager of this type of dwelling, please forward this link to them.
