Nominations are now being accepted for candidates to run in the October 15 Regional District of Central Okanagan Electoral Area Director and School Trustee elections.
Friday, September 9 at 4 p.m. is the deadline for candidates to complete and file nomination papers with the Chief Election Officer. The Central Okanagan East electoral area includes Ellison, Joe Rich, upper June Springs Road, and the south end of Lakeshore Road. The Central Okanagan West electoral area includes Westbank First Nation (Tsinstikeptum) Reserves #9 and #10, Trepanier Bench, Brent Road, Traders Cove, Fintry, Valley of the Sun, La Casa, Killiney Beach, Westshore Estates and Wilson’s Landing.
A candidate for an Electoral Area Director must have ten qualified electors from the electoral area jurisdiction sign the nomination papers. Nominators must:
- Live, or own property, within the electoral area boundary
- Be a Canadian citizen
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have lived in BC for six months
- Not be disqualified from voting
Candidates do not have to reside in the jurisdiction in which they wish to run.
Candidates for Zone 1 School Trustee (Central Okanagan East and Lake Country) may also pick up and file nomination papers at the RDCO, or District of Lake Country election office, while those in Zone 2 (Central Okanagan West, WFN and Peachland) may do the same at the RDCO or District of Peachland election office. Two qualified nominators and a nomination deposit of $100 is required for School Trustee candidates.

Incomplete nomination packages will not be accepted, therefore, those wishing to submit their nomination documents are encouraged to book an appointment with the Chief Election Officer ahead of the 4 p.m. deadline on September 9.
