Regional Parks Visitor Services update
The Regional Board received a presentation and report from Parks Services outlining program and visitor highlights during 2021. While pandemic public health and safety regulations impacted in-person programs, it’s estimated last year more than 27,600 people took part in a Regional Park interpretive program or event. That’s up from 19,500 in 2020. In 2019 before the pandemic, approximately 43,000 people participated in park programs. Last year 500 programs and events were held in 23 Regional Parks and more than 170 individuals logged over 1,500 hours volunteering with park improvement initiatives and projects.
Regional parks tenure license agreements
The Regional Board has approved renewing Crown Land Licenses of Occupation for portions of Antlers Beach and Hardy Falls Regional Parks. Each license renewal is for a 30-year term with the same terms and conditions as the previous agreements.
Agricultural Land Commission application
The Regional Board conditionally supports forwarding an application from a property owner at 3782 Old Vernon Road to the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC). The applicant is seeking ALC approval to permit temporary housing for farm workers on a portion of the large agricultural property. The Board support requires the owner to apply to the RDCO and receive zoning bylaw amendment approval to allow the temporary non-adhering residential use.
The Regional Board has approved the audit planning report submitted by BDO Canada LLP. The report outlines the process for conducting the 2021 audit for the Regional District.
