The nomination process will soon be underway for potential candidates seeking to run in the October 15 General Local Government Elections in the Regional District of Central Okanagan.
Candidate information packages are now available for the Central Okanagan East or Central Okanagan West Electoral Area Directors and Zone 1 and Zone 2 School Trustee elections Those considering their candidacy should check the RDCO website rdco.com/elections, or pick up a candidate information package at the RDCO office at 1450 KLO Road in Kelowna.
The election website has links to pertinent Regional District and Electoral Area information and to detailed and informative guides prepared by Elections BC for candidates and financial agents. You’ll also find links to the Local Government Act and Provincial guides and videos explaining what to expect as a candidate, and general information on the general local election.
A candidate requires ten qualified electors from the jurisdiction for which a person is nominated to sign the nomination papers. Candidates must be a Canadian citizen at least 18 years of age on election day, have lived in BC for six months and not be disqualified from voting. Candidates are not required to reside in the jurisdiction in which they are running. Successful candidates will sit for a four-year term which expires in the fall of 2026.
Completed nomination forms must be returned to the Chief Election Officer between 9 a.m. Tuesday, August 30 and 4 p.m. Friday, September 9. In the meantime, all interested candidates are encouraged to review the information provided and reach out directly to the Chief Election Officer if there are any questions.
