Parks and Trails

School classes, community groups and individuals may book any of our educational programs for groups up to 24. Choose your program topic from the list below before booking.

We welcome and encourage bookings for many types of groups: teachers looking for a field trip or online program, activities for retirement residences, parents home-schooling children, and any other group interested in environmental education.

Park Interpreters facilitate exploration and support inquiry-based learning in Regional Parks – the most popular option being Mission Creek Regional Park. Programs are designed to complement the B.C. curriculum for grades K through 12.

Booking details

  • $40 per each one hour program
  • A maximum of 24 participants per booking (for student groups, no more than 10 additional adults, including teachers) 
  • Available at Mission Creek Regional Park, in your classroom or at an another Regional Park
  • All bookings are done online and must be paid by credit card by logging in to your account

Program topics

A Look Back at the Gellatly Nut Farm

Students will tour heritage buildings at Gellatly Nut Farm Regional Park and learn how life a century ago was different from, or like, life today and how the Gellatly family lived on and farmed the land. The tour gets a close look at many nut varieties.

  • Pre-K to grade 3
  • Only suitable during fall
Bears/skəm̓xist

Students will learn about bears and their behaviors and consider ways we can coexist with our bruin neighbours. The virtual program includes the syilx teaching How Food was Given while the in-person program includes bear artifacts and furs.

  • Pre-K to grade 2

Bats

Bats are fascinating creatures of the night and vitally important to our ecosystem. Students will learn how bats are under threat and how they can help them.

  • Grades 2 to 5

Birds of the Okanagan

Learn about the birds that spend time in the Okanagan and how to identify them. Understand our feathered friends and how we can help them. Program includes a walk in the forest.

  • Grades 3 and 4

Habitat connections

Bordered by busy cities, many animal species find shelter in our regional parks. In this walking program, students will explore the species that call our parks home, the components of a healthy habitat, and ideas around food webs and chains.

  • Grades 5 and 6
  • In a park
Owls

Students will learn about the many species of Okanagan owls, how they differ from other birds of prey and what traits they share. Optional pellet dissection available at $2 per pellet.

  • Grades 3 and 4

Pond study 

Start with a short hike to the pond in Mission Creek Regional Park, then dive into the fascinating world of pond invertebrates. Students will investigate aquatic critters such as scud, mayfly nymph, water striders, and more.

  • Pre-K to grade 2
  • Only suitable during May and June
  • Can be delivered in French
Snow Science

Snow is the result of molecular magic, a bit of magic we can see on a snowy day. Students learn how a snowflake is formed and how some animals take advantage of snow to survive winter.

  • Grades 3 to 6
  • Only suitable during January and February (needs snow)
Something’s Fishy!

Students learn about the many challenges kokanee face during every stage of their life;  the kokanee’s place in the food web, and why they swim upstream. This program is offered at Mission Creek and Hardy Falls Regional Parks.

  • Pre-K to grade 5
  • Only suitable during September and October
Trees of the Okanagan

Just as we see brand logos in the world around us, we can also learn to see nature’s logos if we know what to look for. Imagining the trees as the logos of the park , students will learn to recognize them on a walking tour through the forest.

  • Grades 5 and 6
