Parks and Trails

Some types of activities and facilities within RDCO parks require a permit such as weddings, large gatherings, reserving a picnic shelter, and special events like runs and races. Food Trucks are not permitted in the park.

First-come, first serve amenities

Park visitors are welcome to use picnic shelters, tables, and gazebos free of charge on a first come, first served basis, if there is no reservation. Designated facilities have signage posted with a reservations list. 

Booking a facility or park

Event permit (25 to 75 people)

Note: Event permits must be booked at least six weeks in advance.

A park use permit is for reserving park space for group events and gatherings up to 75 people. Applications are subject to staff approval.

Available at these Regional Parks:

  • Bertram Creek Regional Park (amphitheatre) 
  • Kaloya Regional Park (grass area at the north side of the park)
  • Kopje Regional Park (fenced area outside of the Gibson Heritage House)
  • Mission Creek Regional Park (grass area across from the EECO log building)

Booking requirements:

  • Minimum six weeks advanced notice to book.
  • Maximum of 75 people.
  • Maximum of four hours in duration, including set-up and take-down.
  • For group gatherings, corporate/staff events, and non-profit fundraisers (excludes weddings and commercial activities).
  • Cost: $100 permit fee, $25 non-refundable administration fee, plus insurance (can be purchased through miabc.eventpolicy.ca after purchasing your permit).
  • Food trucks are not permitted.
  • Read our terms and conditions prior to booking.

Apply for a park use permit 

Special event permit  (76 to 250 people)

Note: Special event permits must be booked at least six weeks in advance.

A Special Event Permit is for reserving park space for events up to 250 people (500 if using Mission Creek Greenway). Applications are subject to staff approval. 

Available at these Regional Parks:

  • Bertram Creek Regional Park (upper field)
  • Kopje Regional Park (grass field)
  • Mission Creek Regional Park and Greenway (grass field across from EECO log building)

Booking requirements:

  • Minimum six weeks advanced notice to book.
  • For non-profit fundraisers, race/run events, and corporate/staff events (excludes weddings and commercial activities).
  • Applications are subject to staff approval.
  • Maximum of four hours duration (including set-up and take-down of event).
  • Maximum of 250 people (or 500 people for events using the Greenway).
  • Cost: $200 permit fee, $25 non-refundable administration fee, plus insurance (can be purchased through miabc.eventpolicy.ca after purchasing your permit).
  • Food trucks are not permitted.
  • Read our terms and conditions prior to booking.

Filming permit

Note: Filming permits must be booked at least four weeks in advance.

A filming permit is required for anyone wanting to film in a Regional Park. Applications are subject to staff approval.

  • Must be booked a minimum of four weeks in advance.

Picnic shelter reservation (up to 25 people)

Note: Reservations are accepted between May 20 to November 15 only. Picnic shelter reservations must be booked at least two weeks in advance.

The picnic shelter in Mission Creek Regional Park can be reserved. Reservations are for a maximum of two hours, with up to 35 people. Must be booked a minimum of two weeks in advance. 

Booking Requirements:

  • Minimum two weeks advanced notice is required for reservations (and can be booked up to 3 months in advance).
  • Maximum of 25 people and two hours per booking.
  • Cost: $40 facility fee, $25 non-refundable admin fee, plus the cost of insurance (can be purchased through miabc.eventpolicy.ca after purchasing your permit).

Book a picnic shelter

Recreational activity permit (guided or group programs)

Note: Recreational activity permits must be booked at least four weeks in advance.

A recreation activity permit is required for organized, group activities in parks, such as guided hikes and fitness training.

Booking requirements:

  • Minimum four weeks advanced notice to book.
  • Maximum of 20 people.
  • Monthly, seasonal, and annual permits available.
  • Cost: $40 to $250 plus insurance.

Weddings (up to 75 people)

Note: Weddings must be booked at least six weeks in advance and must be within the same calendar year.

Hall available at:

  • Ellison Heritage Community Centre (upper floor - year round availability)
    • See community halls webpage for booking requirements, floor plan and other information.

Available at these Regional Parks:

  • Bertram Creek Regional Park (amphitheatre)
  • Kopje Regional Park (fenced area outside Gibson Heritage House)

Booking requirements:

  • Bookable only in the months of April, May, September, and October
  • Minimum six weeks advanced notice to book and must be within the same calendar year as the wedding.
  • Ceremonies only - no receptions allowed
  • Maximum of 75 people and four hours in duration 
  • $250.00 fee plus $300.00 deposit per permit, a $25 non-refundable admin fee, plus insurance (can be purchased through miabc.eventpolicy.ca after purchasing your permit)
  • Applications are subject to approval
