Environment
The RDCO aims to initiate and support efforts to reduce our environmental footprint, adapt to climate change and increase opportunities to connect with nature. In collaboration with others, the RDCO develops strategies, plans and actions to protect watersheds and sensitive ecosystems, care for our lakes and maintain foreshore areas. We also work with partners and other levels of government to manage our solid wastes, address dangers from flooding and wildfires and enhance our region's ecosystems. As we look forward, enhancing the level of integration between the Regional Growth Strategy and transportation planning in the Central Okanagan is also a priority.
Environmental planning
The RDCO oversees several initiatives for environmental planning in the region, including lake and foreshore protection strategy, floodplain management plan, sensitive ecosystem inventory and mapping and state of the basin report.
