Privacy statement

The Regional District is dedicated to upholding privacy rights and maintaining public trust by handling personal information in accordance with the Province of BC's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). Under section 26 of FIPPA, the RDCO has the legal authority to collect personal information for purposes that relate directly to and are necessary for programs or services. 

 

Our Privacy Statement

Our Privacy Statement outlines how the RDCO collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards your personal information when you interact with our website, services and programs. This Privacy Statement does not apply to external sites which may be linked on RDCO webpages. Visitors should examine privacy statements of any external sites for details on how they manage the personal information they collect.

Collection, use and disclosure

The RDCO only collects personal information when it is necessary for the operation of its programs and services. Personal information may include your name, contact information and other personally identifiable information. 

The RDCO only uses personal information for the purpose for which it was collected, or for a use consistent with that purpose, and as permitted by FIPPA.

The RDCO will not disclose your personal information unless permitted under FIPPA.

Consent and notification

When collecting personal information, the RDCO will inform you of the purpose and obtain your consent for its use (and disclosure where required), unless otherwise authorized by law.

Protection

The RDCO safeguards personal information through reasonable administrative, technical and physical security measures. We have systems and processes to ensure that your personal information is securely stored, with access restricted to authorized personnel only.

Access to information

Under FIPPA, you have the right to request access to your personal information or records held by the RDCO, as well as the right to request corrections if the information is inaccurate or incomplete. See our page on Freedom of information for more information. The RDCO manages access and correction requests in accordance with FIPPA to ensure a fair, accountable and transparent process.

Breach management

As required under FIPPA, the RDCO is committed to protecting the confidentiality, integrity and security of the personal information we store. Policies and procedures are in place to prevent unauthorized access, loss or disclosure of personal information.

In the event of a privacy breach that presents a real risk of significant harm, the RDCO will take immediate steps to contain the breach and assess its scope and impact. We will notify affected individuals and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.

 

Updates to this Privacy Statement

The RDCO may update our privacy statement from time to time to reflect changes in legislation and practices. All changes will be posted on this page with the updated effective date.
