Park closures due to wildfires
The following four parks remain closed, pending assessments for safety and hazards:
- Raymer Bay Regional Park (reopening April 2024 once repairs have been completed)
- Rose Valley Regional Park (closed indefinitely)
- Stephens Coyote Ridge Regional Park (closed indefinitely)
- Traders Cove Regional Park (reopening April 2024 once repairs have been completed)
The closed parks contain a number of dangers including fire-damaged trees and potential geotechnical hazards (e.g. rockfall, ash pits, land movement). For the safety of our staff, we are not able to get in until all hazards, including hazard trees, have been assessed, identified and addressed.
For more information please consult this FAQ.
Visitors are asked to respect signage and stay out of closed parks until further notice.
The RDCO is seeking funding through the Disaster Financial Assistance program with the Province of BC for assessments and repairs to these parks.
The Regional District offers more than 2,100 hectares of parkland in 30 regional parks, including over 86 km of designated trails and ten parks with lake access. Park closing times change seasonally to follow daylight hours.
