Established in 1979, the Ellison Fire Department has long served as a cornerstone of safety and community resilience. The current Fire Hall, built in 2000, is located beside Ellison School on land originally donated in the early 1900s, reflecting the longstanding community spirit that continues to define Ellison today.

Ellison is a rural, unincorporated community in the Central Okanagan, with roughly 2,700 residents living in about 1,000 homes across an 82‑square‑kilometre fire protection area. The community is dispersed across agricultural land, rural acreages and small neighbourhoods, accessed primarily via Old Vernon Road near the Kelowna International Airport.

The area’s dry‑land grasslands, pine forest savannahs and pockets of wetland ecosystems contribute to varied wildfire risk conditions. Three main creeks (Scotty Creek, Whelan Creek and Mill Creek) run through the region and influence local terrain, vegetation, and emergency‑response considerations. Elevation ranges from approximately 1,350 to 2,490 feet, adding to the diversity of response environments.
