Help protect Ellison: Paid-on-call firefighters needed
The Ellison Fire Department is accepting applications for paid-on-call firefighters and is seeking committed community members who want to make a meaningful difference. This role offers an opportunity to serve your community, develop new skills and join a dedicated team that responds when help is needed most.
Applicants must live within an eight-kilometre radius of Station 61 at 4411 Old Vernon Road, be between 19 and 65 years old and be in good physical condition. A valid Class 5 driver’s licence and the ability to complete a criminal record check are required.
Completed application forms can be brought to the Ellison Fire Department on Monday, Feb. 9, or Tuesday, Feb. 17, between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Applicants will have an opportunity to meet firefighters in person and ask questions. Applications may also be submitted by email to ellison.chief@rdco.com.
Prospective recruits will be contacted about next steps. Interviews and practical assessments will take place at the Ellison Fire Department on Saturday, Feb. 28. Recruits will also receive training as First Medical Responders, as Ellison serves as a medical first response station alongside its firefighting operations.
Established in 1979, the Ellison Fire Department serves the community along Old Vernon Road from either the north or south end of the Kelowna Airport.
