Okanagan manufacturing database aims to boost local supply chains, economic resilience

The database connects regional manufacturers, suppliers and decision-makers across the valley.

A new tool designed to strengthen the Okanagan’s manufacturing sector and reduce reliance on external supply chains is now live.

Launched by the Central Okanagan Economic Development Commission (COEDC) with financial support from Economic Trust of the Southern Interior (ETSI-BC)’s Innovating and Advancing Key Sectors funding stream, the Okanagan Manufacturing Database connects regional manufacturers, suppliers and decision-makers across the valley. This database is part of a broader initiative to strengthen manufacturing capacity in the region.

The online database includes detailed profiles of manufacturers from Salmon Arm to Osoyoos, highlighting their products, materials and the industries they serve. It offers a clear view of the region’s industrial strengths and creates opportunities for collaboration and growth.

“This database is a great way to highlight the talent and expertise in our manufacturing community,” said Krista Mallory, manager of the COEDC. “It makes it easier for companies to find local suppliers, explore new partnerships and make smart decisions that support growth.”

By mapping the region’s capabilities, the tool supports long-term business stability and helps reduce dependence on outside suppliers, making the local economy more adaptable in a complex global market.

“This database is a smart and timely initiative by the COEDC,” said Mark Burleigh, President of West Kelowna-based Northside Industries. “It gives manufacturers like us better visibility into regional capabilities, helping us identify local sourcing options and build more resilient supply chains. Having access to this kind of information supports more efficient planning and strengthens collaboration across the Okanagan’s manufacturing sector.”

The initiative aligns with the COEDC’s broader goal of building a stronger, more resilient regional economy through knowledge-sharing, local sourcing and innovation.
