Pop-up recycling depots return to Lake Country and Peachland

The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) is pleased to announce the return of pop-up recycling depots for residents in Lake Country and Peachland in 2026, supported by Recycle BC.

These events provide an easy and convenient way for residents to responsibly dispose of recyclable materials, especially for those without easy access to local depots. The pop-ups help residents recycle current depot-only materials such as flexible plastics, foam packaging and non-deposit glass bottles and jars without needing to drive to another community. The 2025 pop-up depots diverted more than 13.6 tonnes of recyclable materials from landfill helping to reduce recycling contamination.

“Based on the number of residents who attend, our pop-up events are popular, and we are grateful that we can offer them with Recycle BC’s support,” says Cynthia Coates, Supervisor of Solid Waste with the Regional District of Central Okanagan. “While curbside collection for flexible plastics and non-deposit glass bottles and jars will start May 1, we still want to provide a convenient location to recycle non-curbside items and provide an option for residents that don’t have curbside collection.”

Brendan McShane, Vice President Operations, Recycle BC, says, “We are excited about our continued partnership with the Regional District of Central Okanagan. These events provide an opportunity to responsibly manage and recycle materials not accepted currently in curbside or apartment and condo collection programs, ensuring that we continue keeping these materials out of landfills and nature.”

Eight pop-up depots (four in each community) will be held in 2026 on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in March, April, July and October as follows:

Peachland Recycling Pop-Up Depots

March 14 (Beach Avenue Boat Launch parking area)

April 11, July 11 and October 3 (4450 6th Street, Peachland Community Centre visitor parking lot)

Lake Country Recycling Pop-Up Depots

March 28, April 25, July 25 and October 17 (10150 Bottom Wood Lake Road District of Lake Country Municipal Hall parking lot)

Prizes offered by each municipality provide an added incentive to attend, with both communities offering random prize draws for participants.
