Highlights from the Regional Board
Okanagan Film Commission provides annual update
The board received an annual update from the Okanagan Film Commission. In 2024, more than 40 productions filmed in the region, generating an estimated $91 million in local economic impact. Highlights included the From Script to Screen initiative, growing demand for crew training and efforts to attract international productions.
Regional Agricultural Strategy endorsed
The board endorsed the updated Regional Agricultural Strategy, a roadmap to support and protect agriculture across the Central Okanagan through to 2035. Developed in collaboration with agricultural stakeholders, local governments, First Nations and provincial agencies, the strategy outlines seven regional goals and includes a phased 54-action implementation plan. As a regional strategy, it provides consistency across jurisdictions and supports better coordination on shared issues such as land use, water access and farmworker housing.
Land use amendment approved for 7319 Trapper Court
The board adopted a bylaw amendment to allow a secondary suite on a rural residential property in Joe Rich. The applicant will connect two existing homes with a hallway to meet land use bylaw requirements. This amendment brings the property into compliance and supports diverse housing options in Electoral Area East.
Strategic Priorities Fund grant applications approved
The board approved four applications to the Union of B.C. Municipalities Strategic Priorities Fund. The applications include upgrades to the East Trunk wastewater system, an energy retrofit for the KLO building, an Official Community Plan update and a review of the Regional Growth Strategy. Each project supports environmental goals, regional collaboration and service efficiency.
