Stage 3 outdoor water restrictions begin for RDCO water systems

Residents are encouraged to skip watering altogether if it is not needed

With drought conditions worsening across the region, Stage 3 outdoor water restrictions are now in place for all six water systems operated by the Regional District of Central Okanagan.

The restrictions are required due to the province’s current Level 3 drought classification across the region. A Level 3 drought signals critically dry conditions that could lead to serious effects on ecosystems and communities without meaningful water conservation. By following watering restrictions, residents help protect water sources, reduce pressure on infrastructure and support the health of local watersheds.

Effective immediately, Stage 3 restrictions apply to the Star PlaceFalcon RidgeKilliney BeachSunset RanchUpper Fintry/Shalal Road/Valley of the Sun and Westshore water systems. Restrictions will remain in place until further notice.

Under RDCO Water Systems Regulations Bylaw No. 1513, the following rules apply during Stage 3:

  • Outdoor lawn and garden watering is limited to one day per week:
    • Even-numbered addresses may water on Saturdays
    • Odd-numbered addresses may water on Sundays
  • The following outdoor water uses are prohibited:
    • Filling swimming pools, hot tubs, garden ponds or decorative fountains
    • Washing vehicles, boats, driveways, sidewalks or patios

The bylaw also sets time-of-day restrictions for watering:

  • Automated irrigation systems may operate only between midnight and 6 a.m.
  • Manual watering is allowed from 6 to 11 a.m. and from 6 p.m. to midnight on your designated watering day

Residents are encouraged to skip watering altogether if it is not needed. Conserving water helps ensure there is enough supply for essential needs throughout this extended dry period.
