Make memories, not garbage this holiday season
The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) is committed to reducing and managing solid waste in our region. According to Zero Waste Canada, holiday season household waste can increase by more than 25%, and in Canada alone, 545,000 tonnes of gift wrap and shopping bags end up in the landfill each year. Even more surprising, within six months of Christmas, only 1% of the items we purchase are still in use.
That’s why, for several years, RDCO has encouraged residents to “Create memories, not garbage.” Instead of focusing on things, we’re inviting you to give experiences, make traditions, and choose sustainable wrapping options. By incorporating the 5 R’s (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle) into your holiday celebrations, we can all help reduce waste and make the season more meaningful.

Winners will be drawn randomly and contacted by December 10. We will not ask for any personal information or ask you to purchase anything. Open to Central Okanagan residents only. Prizes must be picked up at RDCO, 1450 K.L.O. Road, Kelowna, B.C.
