Protective services
The Regional District of Central Okanagan strives to provide a safe environment for all citizens. This requires involvement from residents, as they have a role to play in making sure streets and neighbourhoods are safe. We offer a number of protective services programs:
- 9-1-1 call answering service
This region-wide service ensures that anyone needing police, fire or ambulance can get the help they need by dialing one number
- Dog licences and control
The Regional District encourages good habits for dog owners, to support the health and safety of residents and pets. The Responsible Dog Ownership | Bylaw No. 1343 guides dog licenses and dog control programs within the Central Okanagan.
- Emergency Management
We have a regional emergency plan for emergency situations like flooding or wildfires. It is coordinated by the City of Kelowna Fire Department on behalf of the Regional District, the City of Kelowna, the City of West Kelowna, District of Lake Country, District of Peachland and Westbank First Nation.
The Central Okanagan Emergency Operations website will have up-to-date information from the Emergency Operation Centre, when activated. You can also subscribe to receive e-notices when information is updated during any emergency.
- Fire protection
The RDCO is responsible for fire protection services provided through four, paid-on-call departments in the two unincorporated electoral areas. Each department provides services specifically within its fire protection area. Services are funded by property owners living within each fire department's jurisdiction.
