Hit the trails: RDCO marks BC Trails Day with new summer parks programs
Residents are invited to celebrate the outdoors on BC Trails Day, Saturday, June 6, with Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) Parks. The celebration coincides with the launch of the 2026 Summer Parks Program Guide, offering even more opportunities to stay active, connected and inspired this season.
BC Trails Day is a province-wide celebration highlighting the vital role trails play in supporting healthy communities, recreation and connection to nature. In the Central Okanagan, the RDCO offers residents and visitors access to more than 2,100 hectares of protected parkland and over 80 kilometres of trails, making it easy to get outside and explore.
From the lakeside views along Kalamoir Regional Park's waterfront trail, where sunlight dances across Okanagan Lake, to the forested pathways in KLO Creek Regional Park, which wind through a landscape that feels straight out of a fairy tale, regional parks offer countless opportunities to experience the natural beauty of the Central Okanagan.
“This year’s BC Trails Day is the perfect opportunity for people of all ages to reconnect with our incredible trail network,” says Jill Hamilton, Supervisor of Community Relations and Visitor Services. “Whether it’s a short nature walk, a family outing or a longer hike, our parks offer something for everyone and this year, there are even more ways to get involved through our summer programs.”
To mark BC Trails Day, RDCO Parks is encouraging the community to:
- Explore a favourite trail in a regional or community park, or discover a new one
- Practice responsible trail use to help preserve natural spaces
- Register for a guided hike with the RDCO Parks team
Coinciding with BC Trails Day, RDCO Parks is also launching its Summer 2026 Parks Program Guide, offering a full lineup of guided hikes, interpretive programs, family activities and outdoor learning experiences throughout the summer.
The guide features:
- Guided hikes and nature walks led by knowledgeable park interpreters
- Family-friendly programs designed to connect kids with nature
- Educational sessions focused on local wildlife, ecosystems and conservation
- Accessible programming for a range of ages and abilities
Together, BC Trails Day and the Summer Program Guide highlight RDCO’s ongoing commitment to fostering healthy, vibrant communities through access to nature and outdoor recreation.
