Meet Steve Stagg: A Park Ranger who calls the Central Okanagan's Regional Parks his office
For Steve Stagg, no two days are quite the same. One morning might start with spotting wildlife along a trail, while another could involve helping visitors from halfway around the world find their way through one of the region's beautiful parks. As a Parks Ranger with RDCO Parks, Steve has spent the last seven years helping keep Regional District parks safe, welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.
Steve's journey to the Okanagan has included several places he's proudly called home, including Vancouver, Rock Creek, Kelowna and West Kelowna. Today, he's become a familiar face in RDCO parks, where his passion for the outdoors and commitment to public service shine through every day.
What does Steve love most about his job? It's simple: being outdoors.
"Working in all the parks every day" tops the list. Whether he's encountering local wildlife or connecting with visitors from across the globe, Steve says the opportunity to experience the region's natural beauty while meeting new people is one of the most rewarding parts of his role. One accomplishment he's especially proud of is helping build and strengthen the Bylaw Ranger position within RDCO Parks. Over the years, Steve has worked alongside fellow rangers to help ensure parks remain safe and enjoyable for residents throughout the Okanagan and for the many visitors who come to experience the region's outdoor spaces.
Steve's career path with RDCO started from the ground up. He spent four years working as a Parks Labourer before deciding to pursue bylaw enforcement courses. From there, he successfully applied for a Parks Ranger/Bylaw Officer position, turning his experience and dedication into a long-term career protecting the places people love to explore.
When he's not on patrol in the parks, Steve stays busy with family, sports and travel. He enjoys both playing and watching sports, spending time outdoors and catching a good movie whenever he can. Family remains at the centre of it all.

He's collected more than a few memorable stories over the years. Steve once had the unique opportunity to drive the keeper of the Grey Cup, along with the iconic trophy itself, during a day of celebrations. He also attended the 1994 Grey Cup, where the BC Lions captured the championship.
For someone who spends his days outdoors, it's perhaps no surprise that Steve also enjoys adventures in the water. He's been fortunate enough to swim with both sharks and dolphins, experiences few people can claim. And as if that weren't enough, he once shared a drink with actor John Travolta in Vancouver.
From helping visitors discover the Okanagan's parks to contributing to public safety and collecting incredible stories along the way, Steve Stagg brings enthusiasm, experience and a love for the outdoors to everything he does. For RDCO Parks visitors, that's something worth celebrating.
