RDCO invites public input on the Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan

The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) is inviting residents of Electoral Areas East and West to share feedback on Draft Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan (CWRP).

The initiative addresses how wildfire risk is reduced near homes and natural areas.

The 2026 CWRP is the primary wildfire risk reduction strategy that replaces the previous Regional District’s Parks Wildfire Community Protection Plan and includes Electoral Areas East and West communities such as Ellison, Traders Cove, Killiney Beach and Fintry. It also replaces the existing plan for Joe Rich. The plan focuses on:

  • Fuel management
  • Mitigation in high-risk wildland-urban interface zones
  • FireSmart principles for homes and landscapes
  • Strategic actions to protect lives, property and natural spaces

“Wildfire resiliency is a shared responsibility,” says Mike Walroth, RDCO Regional Fire Chief. “Through proactive fuel reduction and FireSmart practices, we can reduce risk and strengthen community safety.”

How to get involved

Beginning April 21, 2026, until May 3, 2026, residents can take part in the engagement opportunity by visiting yoursay.rdco.com/cwrp to complete the survey, ask questions and explore wildfire mitigation maps, burn history and fuel treatment plans.

Residents are encouraged to take a few minutes to share their feedback and help shape the final plan.
