Recycle BC takes over recycling in the Central Okanagan
Beginning May 1, 2026, Recycle BC takes over curbside residential paper and packaging recycling in the Central Okanagan.
This change introduces two new recycling containers:
- A pink box for flexible plastics
- A grey box for glass bottles and jars
Residents will now be able to recycle more materials right from their home.
What to do on your next collection day
- Continue using your blue-lidded cart for paper and plastic packaging (loose, never bagged)
- Place flexible plastics in the pink box (bundle to prevent flyaways)
- Put glass bottles and jars in the grey box, placed on top
- Place lids from bottles and jars in the blue-lidded cart
Recycling depots
Some items are not accepted at the curb. Please continue to take the following to local depots:
- Foam packaging (Styrofoam)
- Deposit beverage containers
- Batteries and electronics
Depots remain an important service for residents in multi-family buildings or those without curbside collection. Visit the RDCO recycling page for full details on what goes where in the Central Okanagan.
Household hazardous waste
Household hazardous waste (HHW) can be dropped off at a designated depot (fees may apply): Kelowna Recycling / Battery Doctors. Visit our HHW page for more information.
