Regional Board meeting highlights - August 20

Here's what you might have missed from the Regional Board

Bulman Road sewer bylaw adopted

The Regional Board gave first, second and third readings and adopted an amendment to the Central Okanagan East Sewer Systems Bylaw. The amendment creates a process for eligible Bulman Road property owners to voluntarily connect to the sanitary sewer system, providing an alternative to maintaining or replacing aging septic systems. Connections will remain optional and owner initiated.

RCMP communications site supported

The Regional Board supported the RCMP's FrontCounter BC referral application for a radio communications site serving the Joe Rich area and Highway 33, subject to the application of FireSmart principles to help protect infrastructure and reduce wildfire risk. The proposed site will support secure communications for RCMP officers and Indigenous Policing Services operating in the area. The Province will make the final decision on the application.

BC Hydro application supported

The Regional Board supported BC Hydro's FrontCounter BC application for a statutory right of way associated with a transmission line serving telecommunications infrastructure on Blue Grouse Mountain. The transmission line was rebuilt following the 2023 McDougall Creek wildfire and provides power to critical communications infrastructure, including emergency communication services. The Province will make the final decision on the application

Soil removal and deposit bylaw amended

The Regional Board rescinded third reading of Soil Removal and Deposit Bylaw No. 1575, amended the bylaw and gave the amended bylaw third reading. The amendments were required to clarify how the proposed bylaw aligns with provincial environmental legislation before it proceeds through the Province's approval process.

Reserves policy adopted

The Regional Board adopted Board Policy BP25-2026 – Reserves. The policy establishes guiding principles and a consistent framework for the creation, funding, management and use of reserves, helping support long-term financial planning, asset management and financial stability across RDCO services.
