Portions of Mission Creek Regional Park trails closed for infrastructure improvement projects

Visitors to Mission Creek Regional Park are advised that several areas of the park will be temporarily closed starting August 10  to accommodate two important infrastructure and habitat restoration projects.

The closures are required to support the installation of riffles in Mission Creek and the construction of the new Gerstmar Bridge trail improvements. Riffles, which are shallow landforms constructed from rocks in a flowing body of water, will be built along Mission Creek. These natural features oxygenate the water, creating ideal conditions for fish to spawn and rest. The riffles will help improve salmon habitat ahead of this fall’s kokanee spawning season while also enhancing the creek’s natural flood protection capabilities.

The Gerstmar Bridge trail improvements will address a key gap in the Mission Creek Greenway, allowing pedestrians and cyclists to stay on the off-road trail network between Ziprick and Gerstmar roads. The project will enhance accessibility, and overall user experience and safety along one of the region’s most popular trails and active transportation corridors.

Closure areas include portions of the Mission Creek Greenway between the Dogwood Loop trail and Graham Road, the Ziprick Road parking lot, Cottonwoods Bridge, and the Soopollalie trail between Cottonwoods Bridge and the future Gerstmar Bridge location.

Visitors are asked to respect all closure signage, stay out of construction zones, and use alternate routes while work is underway. Trail users should also exercise caution at trail crossings and access roads and follow all posted signs and directions from workers.
