2025 audited financial statements approved
The Regional Board approved the RDCO’s 2025 audited financial statements, confirming the organization remains in a strong financial position. The independent audit found the financial statements fairly present the RDCO’s financial position in accordance with public sector accounting standards.
New short-term rental rules approved for RDCO electoral areas
The Board approved a package of zoning, business licensing and enforcement bylaw amendments to regulate short-term rentals in RDCO electoral areas ahead of the 2026 tourism season.
The new framework includes business licensing requirements, enforcement tools, operator accountability measures, and updated penalties for non-compliance. It is intended to support a balanced approach that allows short-term rentals in various formats while protecting neighbourhood livability and providing a clear compliance and enforcement process. Dog control service review update received
The Board received an update on progress made following the 2025 Dog Control Service Review. The report outlines actions underway to improve service delivery, strengthen internal operations and plan for future needs as the region grows. Feedback from regional partners indicates the service is performing well, with officers consistently viewed as professional and collaborative, and complaint volumes remaining low.
Support provided for agricultural land improvement in Ellison
The Board supported an application to the Agricultural Land Commission for a proposed agricultural land improvement project at 2291/1362 Latta Road in Ellison. The proposal would allow soil placement within an existing gully to improve agricultural capability and expand productive orchard land by approximately 20 per cent. The application will now be forwarded to the Agricultural Land Commission for consideration.
Joe Rich bylaw updated to align with provincial housing legislation
The Board approved amendments to the Joe Rich Rural Land Use Bylaw to align with provincial small-scale multi-unit housing legislation. The changes allow secondary suites as a permitted use in applicable residential areas without requiring rezoning, helping streamline approvals for property owners while ensuring compliance with provincial requirements.
