North Westside Road Transfer Station

All waste generated in the Central Okanagan is transported to the Glenmore Landfill. Disposing of waste in a responsible way contributes to sustainability in your community and will help extend the life of our only local landfill.

Materials must be secured and covered with a tarp for transport to any disposal location. Before heading to any disposal location ensure that your materials are accepted. See banned materials disposal guide for details.

This transfer station is for authorized North Westside Road residents only (i.e. local residents paying utility fees to RDCO). New residents should see site manager for an application form to use transfer station.

Location:

Sugar Loaf Forest Service Road, Central Okanagan, BC
Follow the signs – turn at the corner of Westside Road and Sugarloaf Forest Service Road (approximately 3.2 km north of Udell Road in Killiney Beach).

Hours:

Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Holiday closures: December 25-26, January 1 and Easter Sunday

Special events

The RDCO hosts two bulky item collection events throughout the year at this transfer station during regular operating hours. The first runs for two weeks in the summer and another runs in the fall for one week. During these events registered users (ID required) can dispose of all large bulky items for $20 a truck load (cash or cheque only).

2026 Events:

  • Summer: Wednesday, June 24 until Wednesday, July 8, 2026
  • Fall: Wednesday, October 7 until Wednesday, October 14, 2026

Accepted:

✅ All bulky items - $20 per truckload
✅ Fridges/freezers accepted free of charge
✅ Items include scrap metal, furniture, lawn equipment & more

⚠️ Not accepted:

  • No construction, renovation material
  • No hazardous wastes
  • No electronics

The RDCO hosts a hazardous waste collection event once a year at this transfer station during regular operating hours. In 2026, the event will be on Saturday, July 18.

During this one-day event, residents with valid ID cards can dispose of unwanted household hazardous and electronic waste (no commercial waste allowed).

Accepted:

  • Batteries, electronics, computers, small appliances
  • Domestic pesticides (must have poison symbol and PCP number)
  • Flammable liquids and aerosols (must have flammable symbol)
  • Gasoline (in approved ULC/Jerry can only)
  • Household paint products
  • Liquid adhesives, undercoat and tars
  • Light bulbs & fixtures
  • Pool and hot tub chemicals

Not accepted:

  • No commercial waste

  • Containers (e.g. aerosol cans, aluminum, cartons, paper cups, plastic packages, tin etc.)

  • Paper and cardboard (flattened)
  • Styrofoam (coloured)
  • Styrofoam (white)

  • Up to 10 bags or one pick-up truck load per household per week -maximum load of 250 kg (550 lbs)
  • Grass clippings
  • Shrub and tree trimmings up to 1 meter (39") long and up to 20 cm (8" diameter)
  • No construction waste, rocks, plastic bags, kitchen scraps, metal, animal waste, sod, or stumps
