Recycling

Recycle BC is responsible for residential paper and packaging recycling, including flexible plastics and non-deposit glass in the Central Okanagan. Collection is provided by E360S.

Curbside recycling

Recyclable materials should be sorted in blue-lidded carts, and pink and grey boxes; a pink box for flexible plastics and a grey box for non-deposit glass. To look up materials accepted in curbside recycling see Recycle BC’s What Can I Recycle page.

If your recycling collection was missed, contact E360S by phone 250-412-5336 or email RecycleBC@e360s.ca.

Pop-up recycling depots

The Regional District hosts pop-up recycling depots for residents in Lake Country and Peachland. These pop-ups provide an opportunity for residents to drop off recyclables not accepted in curbside carts or boxes.

British Columbia is a leader in product stewardship, known in the province as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). These programs support a circular economy by offering widespread drop-off recycling services. EPR is the system that collects and recycles certain products across the province. The system includes the whole life cycle of materials that may have previously been considered garbage, not just recycling.

Thanks to provincial take-back programs, it's possible to dispose of materials not collected at the curb.

See the list of items below with EPR programs that are regulated by the province. Learn more about these Provincial take-back programs and recycling locations.

FAQs

Recycle BC is a not-for-profit organization responsible for residential packaging and paper recycling throughout British Columbia. Recycle BC ensures household materials are collected from households and depots, sorted and responsibly recycled. The program is funded by over 1,200 businesses that include retailers, manufacturers and restaurants that supply packaging and paper to BC residents, shifting costs away from homeowners.

Visit recyclebc.ca for more information.

Starting  May 2026, Recycle BC provides curbside recycling services directly to residents in the Central Okanagan through the contractor Environmental 360 Solutions. This means expanded curbside recycling services including a pink box for flexible plastics and a grey box for non-deposit glass bottles and jars. Proper set-out of recycling cart and boxes:

In June 2022, all Central Okanagan municipalities and the RDCO made the decision to request Recycle BC provide direct residential curbside recycling service to the Central Okanagan.

Recycle BC providing direct service reduces financial risk and penalties to municipalities, and ultimately taxpayers. With recycling contamination fines and increasing contract costs, this is the most cost-effective and efficient way to provide these services to residents. With Recycle BC providing direct service, residents will better understand who is ultimately responsible for residential recycling.

Residents are still able to recycle all the same material currently accepted for curbside collection in blue-lidded carts (paper and plastic packaging). Additional materials now collected at curbside include glass (non-deposit bottles and jars) and flexible plastics (i.e. chip bags, zipper-lock pouches, bubble wrap and crinkly wrappers) in grey boxes (for glass) and pink boxes (for flexible plastics).

In British Columbia, the cost of recycling paper and packaging is funded by businesses that supply residential packaging and paper under an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program model. Residents will continue to pay for the curbside collection of garbage and yard waste to their municipality, but the cost of curbside recycling is not included in those fees or taxes.

Founded in 1974, RCBC is Canada's longest serving recycling council. The organization works on recycling initiatives as well as aiming to avoid and reduce the unnecessary use of resources before they ever need to be recycled.
